Al Franken, Student of History? July 26, 2010

Over this past weekend, it was reported by The Hill that Sen. Al Franken was busy demonstrating he failed to know recent history. He is quoted as saying the following at the Netroots Nation liberal blogger convention in Las Vegas:

“We have seen what happens when Republicans take control of Congress with a Democratic president and it ain’t pretty.” (Source: The Hill)

Sen. Franken, the last time we had a Republican Senate and Republican Congress was the 106th Congress, and that congress, unless I am very much mistaken, served this nation quite well the last two years of the Clinton Presidency. What makes the 106th Congress so interesting to me is that this Congress was the one that sat on top of spending, worked with President Clinton, and delivered to the American People the much-ballyhooed projected surplus democrats delight in pointing out was squandered under President Bush.

Hmm, a Democratic President, Republican Senate and Congress generating a projected surplus – I don’t know, sounds pretty good to me!
